Michelle Burge, BBA, CPA, CA

Michelle first joined MRSB Group as a university student in 1991. After completing her studies the same year, she began a full-time accounting role. By 1994 she had obtained her Chartered Professional Accountant designation and in 1999 became a partner. Michelle has more than 20 years’ experience in public accounting and oversees MRSB Group’s accounting and auditing functions. She is also responsible for professional practice standards and technology within the firm. Michelle has considerable experience in audit and assurance engagements with private sector companies, municipalities, cooperatives, credit unions and not-for-profit organizations. She also provides tax planning and financial advisory services to clients. Michelle is involved with several community initiatives in Prince Edward Island. She is currently the Chair of the Board for Junior Achievement PEI, and is also the Chair of the Practice Inspection Committee for the Instititute of Chartered Accountants of PEI. Each summer she takes part in the annual St. Peter’s Blueberry Festival as an Event Chair. Michelle and her husband live in Morell and enjoy boating and motorcycling.

Karen Zakem, CPA (Montana)

Karen has been part of the MRSB team since she moved from Toronto to Prince Edward Island in 1995, starting her career as an accounting technician. She has managed MRSB Bookkeeping & Reporting since 2005 and as of 2013 Karen manages MRSB Accounting & Audit. She performs a variety of services for clients including the review of government remittances, review of financial statements, preparation of billings, staff performance reviews and organization of training courses. Karen strives to continually expand her professional knowledge so she may provide a high level of service to clients. Karen has three teenage children, Rachel, Mark and Colin and has been married since 1994. She likes to read, listen to all kinds of music and spend time with her family.

Matthew MacInnis, CPA
Matt first joined the MRSB team as a summer student in 2013 and joined the team full time in 2014 after completing his BBA degree at UPEI. He went on to complete the CPA PEP program and received his CPA designation in January 2017. During his time at MRSB, Matt has had a chance to work on a variety of engagements with clients from multiple industries across PEI. Although his main focus is on completing individual and team audit engagements, he also works on review and compilation engagements as well as personal and corporate tax returns. Matt enjoys working closely with clients and learning about their organizations. In his free time Matt enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, eating good food, and spending time at the beach.

Jaclyn Waite, BBA, CPA, CA

Jaclyn first joined the team as a co-op student in 2004. After completing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2005 she went on to receive her Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2007. As an Audit Manager, Jaclyn performs audit engagements, both independently and as part of a team, for clients. She has prepared proposals, analyzed financial reports and prepared corporate tax returns for both private and not-for-profit organizations. Jaclyn also completes review and compilation engagements and GST/PST remittances for clients, always with an eye to detail and with the aim of achieving optimal and beneficial outcomes. As part of her role, Jaclyn mentors CPA students who are new to the profession and also trains incoming team members. In her free time Jaclyn enjoys reading, travel, boating, motorcycling and spending time with family and friends.

Chris MacPhee, CPA, CA

A native of eastern Prince Edward Island, Chris has recently joined MRSB after spending several years in the accounting industry in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Chris has over 10 years’ experience in accounting and auditing services, having served a wide variety of clients, including private companies in the agriculture industry, not for profit organizations and registered charities. As a manager within the MRSB accounting team, Chris provides a variety of services related to year end reporting and minimizing taxes for owner managed corporations and their shareholders. Chris received his Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2009 and has also instructed professional development courses at the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia from 2015 to 2017. Chris and his wife have three daughters and he enjoys spending lots of time with his family as well as playing golf and hockey in his spare time.
